Obituary

Virgil D. Brinkmeier, 91, of Lena, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Polo Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. He was born on July 17, 1926 to Paul and Alma (Busch) Brinkmeier. Virgil married Cheryl Mammoser on November 25, 1950 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pearl City. Virgil began farming in the rural Nora area. Virgil and Cheryl bought the Southside City Service in Stockton, then in 1958 they moved to Lena and bought a farm there. Together Virgil and Cheryl started Lena Sales Inc. in 1963. In 1976 Virgil went back to farming. After Virgil retired from farming, he enjoyed working with his son Dan for the Erin Township, plowing and maintaining roads. Cheryl and Virgil traveled, and enjoyed traveling with their camper to local parks and lakes and their own camp Virgie. Every year, they would spend a month in California visiting Cheryl's sister Phyllis. While in California they would visit several other family members. Virgil enjoyed golfing with Cheryl, and he was on golf leagues. Family was everything to Virgil. He would play cards with his family and friends, especially 500 and hand & foot canasta. He enjoyed competitive games of croquet, badminton, and ping pong with his family. Virgil looked forward to family dinners. His great-grandchildren Jax, Ella, and Austin knew him as grandpa Cheetos, since he always had cheetos.

Virgil is survived by his children Linda Korte of Lena, Betty Pries of Fitchburg, WI, Dan (LeeAnn) Brinkmeier of Lena, grandchildren; Eric (Erin) Korte, Tiffanie Korte, and Matthew Brinkmeier, great-grandchildren; Jaxon, Ella, and Austin, a half sister Shirley Goldsmith, step brother Fred Asche, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cheryl in 2009, son-in-law Richard Korte in 2013, grandson Craig Brinkmeier on February 22, 2018, brothers and sisters; Lloyd (Helen) Brinkmeier, Orin (Lorraine) Brinkmeier, Gerald (Jacquilin) Brinkmeier, Evora (Preston) Kempel, Nelda (Myron )Block, Ruby (Jay) Parkinson, Mildred (Mel) Bowden.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Lena United Methodist Church in Lena.

A visitation will be from 3-6:00 PM on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena.

Pastor Keri Rainsberger will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Lena Burial Park in Lena.

A memorial has been established in his name.
