Ursie E. Broge, 89, of Freeport, IL passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on Friday, October 16, 2026. She was born on February 23, 1937, in Nora, IL to Leslie and Hattie (Patton) Price. She married Eugene "Gene" L. Broge on May 10, 1954, at the Nora Community Church in Nora, IL.

Ursie and Gene farmed in rural Nora, IL for many years. They converted their garage and opened a small grocery store and meat market called Broge Farm Market. They sold a variety of goods such as their farmed raised beef, hogs, and poultry. For such a small community they were well supported and very successful. She was also employed by Microswitch for many years. After she and Gene closed their market, she went to school and became a CNA, working at FHN, Lena Continental Manor and even taking care of some elderly patients in the comfort of her home. For several years, Ursie cooked at the Lena Friendship Center, where the clients and staff raved about the meals she prepared.

Baking and cooking were second nature to her. She loved baking treats, but her specialty was her pies. When you went over to her house you could always find a cookie jar that was always full. Ursie was a long-time member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Lena, IL.

Ursie is survived by 4 children- Rose Marie (Nick) Leiendecker of Warren, IL, Christine (Brad) Ellis Snohomish, WA, Eugenia (Lee) Steffens of Shoreview, MN and John (Karoline) Broge of Winslow, IL; 13 grandchildren- Jerad (Michelle) Bennett of Nora, IL, Carrie (Mike) Harris of Nora, IL, Jeanette (Mike) Dorsey of Orangeville, IL, Nickolas (Alex Strife) Bennet of Rockford, IL, Ben (Maranda) Ellis of Marysville, WA, Joe (Annalyn) Ellis Snohomish, WA, Jim (Meghan) Ellis Snohomish, WA, Katelyn (Dan) Washburn Forest Lake, MN, Jonathan (Laura) Steffens Duluth, MN, Jessica (Dirk) Brinkmeier of Freeport, IL, Travis Broge of Winslow, IL, Amber (Brady) Hanson of Pearl City, IL and Mike (Lila) Broge of Juda, WI; 28 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousin, as well as her beloved cat, Character.

She is proceeded in death by her husband-Eugene, daughter-Gale, granddaughter- Shantell Winslow, grandson- Jacob Ellis at Birth, parents- Leslie and Hattie (Patton)Price, in-laws (Clifford and Bessie (Tieman) Broge, brothers- Elmer and Kenneth Price and sister- Alice Ludington.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lena, IL with a visitation from 10:00 am until time of service.

Pastor Jason Shaw will be officiating the service.

Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL.

A memorial has been established in her name for the Lena Friendship Center and Mercyhealth Hospice.
