Russell B. Severson, 61, of Lena, IL, formerly of Black Earth, WI passed away at his home on Sunday, January 11, 2026. The son of Burnett and Marie (Gerke) Severson, he was born on May 16, 1964, in Madison, WI. On June 21, 2008, he married Candy Cain.
Russell started out farming and was a volunteer fireman and EMT in Black Earth, WI. He was a certified GM mechanic and eventually the parts manager at a car dealership. He was head custodian/maintenance for Wisconsin Heights and then he was a custodian for Verona School District before he retired due to a traumatic brain injury sustained at work.
Russell's father was a member of the American Legion and to follow in his father's footsteps he, was a charter member of squadron 313 Sons of the American Legion in Black Earth, WI. Later that lead to him becoming the commander of the detachment of Wisconsin Sons of American Legion. Russell enjoyed vintage tractors and old cars and trucks and going to auctions. He loved music especially old country and the seventies. He often looked forward to trips up to Door County, WI, with Candy. Attended the EAA Air Adventure in Oshkosh, WI and enjoyed scrolling on Facebook and reconnecting with people.
He is survived by his wife- Candy of Lena, IL; mother-in-law Vickie Cain of Freeport, IL; daughter- Kaitlyn of Black Earth, WI; his lovable cats- Anton and Emma and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Roger Cain.
Per Russell's request no service to be held.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
