Lena- Russell K. Aspinwall, 76, of Lena, passed away at his home on Friday, August 15, 2014 following a long illness. He was born on June 13, 1938 in Stephenson County, Illinois to Kermit and Leona (Peck) Aspinwall. He was a graduate of Pearl City High School in the class of 1956. Russell served his country in the United States Army from 1956-1958. He married Janet M. Gartner on October 1, 1961 at the Lena United Methodist Church.

Russell worked for Nobel Electric and Pluming from 1963 to 1976. He then started Aspinwall Plumbing & Electric and Hardware Store. He continued his work until 2005. Russell was a member of the Lena United Methodist Church and a 32nd degree member of the Lena Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Blue Lodge and Tebala Shrine. Russell and Janet also enjoyed many camping trips.

Survivors include two sons: Craig (Teresa) Aspinwall of Freeport, IL and Todd (Kris Finn) Aspinwall of Lena; one brother Gerald (Linda) Aspinwall of Pearl City, IL; one sister, Sharon (Stan) Johnson of Lake Geneva, WI. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Leona, and his wife Janet.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Lena United Methodist Church.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until time of service.

Rev. Brian LeBaron will officiate at the service.

A Masonic service of funeral rites will be recited.

Russell requested that his body be donated for medical research and in lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name for the Shriners and the Lena United Methodist Church.

A luncheon and fellowship time will be held in the church basement following the service.
