Robert "Bob" Monehan, age 91, formerly of Freeport, IL, a resident of Grand Marais, MN, passed away Monday July 4, 2022 in Duluth, MN.  He was born on July 1, 1931 in Freeport, IL, the son of Leo and Ethel Monehan.  Bob married Janet Stauffacher in Freeport.

He served his country in the Korean War, completing 3 tours of duty as a Combat Squad Leader.  He was a Master Sergeant who received 3 bronze stars, 2 Presidential Unit Clusters, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean service medal, United Nations Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. Bob was also a former Commander for the Cedarville American Legion Post 1224 and the McConnell American Legion Post 1225, as well as the former County Commander for Stephenson County. He was a member of the Cedarville Fire Department for 28 years and had served as President.  He was a past President of the Lincoln Land Pioneer Club and a coordinator for the Freeport Jerry Lewis Telethon for 2 years. Bob worked for 32 years with the Telephone Company until his retirement, he started with Northwestern Telephone Company, Contel, and then Verizon.

He is survived by his 2 sons- Larry (Linda) Monehan of Freeport, IL and Pat Monehan of Monroe, WI; daughter Debbie (Rick) Golackson of Monroe, WI; 2 grandsons Noah and Conner; sister Jeanne Carlson of Mesa, AZ.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet, son Mike, 2 sisters Leona and Arlene.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m – 10:00 a.m. on Saturday July 9, 2022 at the Cramer-Leamon Funeral Home in Orangeville, IL.

Funeral Service to follow beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Officiating will be Rev. Roger Bronkema.

Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
