Obituary

Rachael L. Uecker, of Lena, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Manor Court in Freeport. She was born September 28, 1918 in Hopkinton, Iowa, She was the daughter of Henry and Gladys (DeShaw) Glanz.

Rachael grew up on a farm in rural Hopkinton, Iowa, graduating high school in 1936. She attended Lenox College, graduating with an Associate in Arts degree in 1938. She taught in a one room school near her home. As a young lady, she enjoyed going to dances and enjoyed square dancing where he
r father was a square dance caller. She later took up bowling.
On June 18,1955, Rachael married Marvin Uecker in Lena. He preceded her in death in October 2010.

For many years, Rachael was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lena. She enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, reading, sewing, baking and playing cards with family. She enjoyed taking trips with her husband, Marvin, and looked forward to spending the winter months in Gulf Shores, Alabama. In later years, Rachael enjoyed car rides through Lake Le-Aqua-Na and the countryside. She liked to look for deer when they took their evening drives.

Rachael was the loving mother of Karen Wall of Freeport, Julie Jones (Alan) Wenzel of Freeport, and Jan Uecker of Hoffman Estates. She was the beloved grandmother of Krista (Scott) Daly of Papillion, NE, Koleen (Tony) Polito of Avon, OH, Scott (Jodi) Gunder of Iowa City, IA, Mike Todd of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Angelika Uecker of Hoffman Estates, IL, great grandmother of Ryan Daly, Rachael and Abbey Polito and Evan Gunder. She is also survived by one brother, Clarence (Billie) Glanz of Orlando, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Raymond Glanz.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, June 29, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lena with Pastor Rick Bader officiating.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until time of services on Monday, June 29, 2015.

Burial will be at Lena Burial Park.

A memorial fund to the Alzheimers Association has been established in her memory.
