Obituary

Phyllis A. Schwartz, age 91, formerly of Lena, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Luther Manor in Dubuque, IA, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on December 5, 1928 in Lena, IL to Harry and Ethel (Jacobs) Reeder. She was a graduate of Lena-Winslow High School. She married Donald Schwartz on September 13, 1945 in Lena. She worked at Micro Switch in Freeport, IL as a final switch inspector, was a homemaker and later was the head cook at the Lena Elementary School cafeteria. Phyllis loved to sew, read and fish. After retirement Phyllis and Don spent many wonderful years in Florida. She was very sociable and enjoyed playing cards with friends and golfing. She loved to play slot machines, travel on bus trips and cruises to many exciting destinations and meeting new people who quickly became friends. Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton, IL. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxillary.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 74 years Donald of Galena, IL; son Gregory (Jill) Schwartz of Hampton, VA; daughter Mary (Greg) Althof of Stockton, IL; five grandchildren- Briton (Kim) Schwartz of Virginia Beach, VA, Jason (Kimberly) Schwartz of Reston, VA, Derek Althof of Park City, UT, Nathan (Whitney) Althof of Stockton, IL, and Bryant Althof of Stockton, IL; three great grandchildren- Parker, Emmerson and Sophia Schwartz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gerald Reeder and sister June Mellen.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name.

The family would especially like to thank the staff at Prairie Ridge of Galena, Dr. Richard Farrell, the staff at Midwest Medical Center and the staff at Luther Manor for their kindness and exceptional care of Phyllis.

Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton, IL.

Funeral Mass will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Luncheon will follow at the church.

Interment will take place at a later date.
