Obituary

Oscar A. Ruedinger, 93, of Orangeville, IL, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the SSM Monroe Hospice Home on Saturday, December 27, 2025.  He was born on June 16, 1932, to Albertus and Anna (Achterberg) Ruedinger in Oshkosh, WI.  Oscar married Janet Keller on June 26, 1982, in Monticello, WI at the Zwingli United Church of Christ.

Oscar worked for many years at Kelly Springfield as a laborer until his retirement in 1997.  After his retirement he wanted to share his carpenter/craftsmanship talents, so he started his own business, Oscar's Remodeling.  He was a very talented carpenter.  He created many beautiful pieces of furniture including; desks, hutches, end tables, ornaments, pot trivets, picture frames and many other beautiful and intricate creations.  His last big project he completed was making small wooden crosses for the Orangeville United Methodist Church.  He loved giving to his community and sharing his labor of love.  Oscar always enjoyed going out to breakfast or lunch with his family and friends at his favorite restaurants The Blue Ox in Monroe or The Big Apple in Freeport.  He enjoyed traveling to see his family in Oshkosh, Milwaukee, and Iowa.  In his younger years he was an avid deer hunter.  Oscar was a son of God as a devoted member of the Orangeville United Methodist Church.  He was a family man, and a loving, kind and compassionate person who will be deeply missed.

Oscar is survived by his wife, Janet of Orangeville; three children: Michael Hort of Orangeville, James Hort of St. Charles, IL and Lisa Parriott (John Moses) of Freeport; grandchildren: Allison (Jesse) Busker of Stockton and Isaac Parriott of Freeport; grand dogs:  Emma, Achilles, and Cash; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and foster parents: Edwin and Edna Johnson.
