Nancy "Jo" Patterson, age 85 of Orangeville, IL, passed away on April 19, 2017 at her home. She was born Nancy Joan Barmore on November 22, 1931 at the original section of FHN Hospital , in the West wing which was known as Deaconess Hospital and the only section standing in 1931. The daughter of Verl C. Barmore, who passed when she was 14 years old and mother Margaret Furray Barmore, who taught school in and around Orangeville High School for many years.

Jo graduated from Orangeville High School in the class of 1949. Looking for adventure, she moved to Laguna, California, where she worked as a car hop at a Drive-In where the girls were required to wear roller skates. On December 16, 1953 she met her husband of 49 years, Lee William Patterson who was on leave from the Army, they decided to get married and drove East to Yuma, Arizona ; they were married on the 3 ^rd day they knew each other. Lee was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. One year later their only child, Mark was born on December 8, 1954. They transferred to Germany in the early days. In their free time they explored the European Continent and the Mediterranean Sea. They attended the 1957 World's Fair in Brussels, Belgium. They bounced around the states and in 1968 when Lee returned from Vietnam on his second tour; they transferred to Fort Shafter in Honolulu, Hawaii for one year. In 1972 Lee retired from the Army and they settled in Orangeville. Jo and her sister-in-law and best friend for life Bonnie Barmore, started and ran a successful ceramics business. When they decided to sell out, Jo got a job at the Holiday Inn of Freeport where she was front desk Manager for 21 years. She forged many friendships along the way. She kept in touch with many old friends, people she met in the Army, the ceramics business, Holiday Inn, and the Cedarville Mobile gas station, where she worked for 11 years. Starting with the Holiday Inn she made many friends in law enforcement. After working their day jobs local law enforcement officers would work a 2 ^nd job at night as security at the Holiday Inn. After working at the Holiday Inn, she got a job at the Mobile Station in Cedarville, IL, where some law enforcement would choose to take their breaks at the Mobile Station. People like Don Parker, Ron Kramer, Doug Teasdale, Dave Snyder, Jerry Pardus, Bonnie Hartog, Curt Witte, and Tom Fogel, just to mention a few.

Jo leaves behind her son Mark Kirby Patterson of Orangeville; 2 brothers – John (Bonnie) Barmore of Orangeville and James (Sharon) Barmore of Cedarville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Mariella Zettle.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday May 6, 2017 at the Orangeville United Methodist Church.

Luncheon is to follow at the church.

Officiating will be Pastor Judith Sherk.

A private family burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name.
