Marlin M. Mason, age 73, of Lena, IL passed away on Thursday October 10, 2024 surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. He was born on December 21, 1950 in Rockford, IL to Harrison and Betty (Link) Mason. Marlin graduated from Winnebago High School in 1970. After graduating from high school, Marlin proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard. On May 21, 1983, Marlin was united in marriage to Carol Lee.
Marlin served on the volunteer fire department in Winnebago. His waste water career started in Winnebago, but he retired from the Village of Lena Water Department after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Lena Masonic Lodge 174 and enjoyed being outdoors. Marlin loved fishing, shooting, camping, and listening to country music. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, and he also enjoyed watching NASCAR. Marlin was a people person, who could often be found laughing his famous belly laugh. But, spending time with his family was his favorite.
Marlin is survived by his wife Carol of Lena, son Scott (Chari) Holland of Minnesota, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, son Michael Holland, brothers Don Mason and Chuck Mason, and a sister Phyllis Burns.
Per Marlin's request, no services will be held.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
