Lucille D. Brown, 104, of Apple River, IL passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Dimensions Living (formerly Prairie View) in Winnebago, IL. The daughter of Wilmer and Minnie (Wolford) Winter, she was born on September 14, 1920, in Galena, IL. She married Albert Brown on July 15, 1939, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dubuque, IA and together they farmed in rural Apple River until their retirement in 1980.
Many Sunday afternoons Lucille's kitchen would be the hang out spot for family and friends coming over to visit and eat. She loved chatting and making everyone smile and laugh until their stomachs hurt. She enjoyed quilting and stitching when time allowed. She was a woman of great faith and was a proud member of the St Joseph Catholic Church in Apple River, IL. Lucille enjoyed helping at church and was the Co-President of the Alter & Rosary Society.
She is survived by her children-Thomas Brown of Dixon, IL, Judith (Nelson) Anger of Rockford, IL, Jean (Richard) Schaber of Winnebago, IL, Karen (John) Brown -Forester of Orlando, FL, Sharon (Ron) Abner of Orlando, FL, daughter-in-law Christine Brown of Warren, IL, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert, daughter Janet, son Gerald, daughter-in-law Renae, grandson Billy, granddaughter Deborah, and her siblings.
A funeral mass will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple River, IL.
A visitation will take place from 9:00 am until the time of service. With the rosary being recited at 8:30 am.
Father Andrew Hernandez and Father Dennis Morrissy will be officiating the services.
Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Apple River, IL.
