Lola M. Gerbick, 98, of Lena, Illinois passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at her home.
She was born May 14, 1918 in Willow, Illinois to Roscoe and Edna Calhoun. Lola married Allen Gerbick on May 24, 1947 in Stockton, Illinois at the Wesley Methodist Church. Allen passed away on April 19, 2001.
She attended Willow one room school for eight years and graduated valedictorian from Stockton High School in 1936. She then attended Northern Illinois State Teachers College in Dekalb, Illinois, graduating in 1938. She taught at Kent Ridge for five years and at Howardsville for another four years, both one room schoolhouses. She and her husband farmed in the Lena area all of their lives. She was a member of the Lena United Methodist Church. Lola enjoyed gardening and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by one son Dean (Barbara) Gerbick of Lena, Illinois; one daughter Sharon Martella of Bensenville, Illinois; five grandchildren Kory (Lindsey) Gerbick of Metamora, Illinois; Kristal Gerbick of Poynette, Wisconsin; Mark Martella of Itasca, Illinois; Michael Martella of Addison, Illinois; Shara (Kevin Driscoll) Martella of Bartlett, Illinois; four great-grandchildren Benjamin and Sarah Gerbick, Madelyn Morawa, and Arreyana Driscoll; sister Lucille (Al) Barker; sister-in-law Helen Calhoun and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son Dennis, one sister Wynnetta, and four brothers Elwyn, Elden, George, and Kenneth.
The funeral will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Lena United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian LeBaron officiating.
Visitation will be Friday, May 27, 2016 from 5-8:00 PM at Leamon Funeral Home in Lena.
Internment will be at Lena Burial Park in Lena, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Lena United Methodist Church, Monroe Clinic Hospice, and the American Cancer Society.
