John " Max" Hume age 95 formerly of Apple River, IL, passed away on Monday December 31, 2018 at Waverly Place in Stockton, IL. He was born on November 24, 1923 in JoDaviess County to Stanley and Beatrice (Kneebone) Hume. He married Helen E. Egan on November 6, 1945 in Cuba City, WI. He was a life-long farmer and continued to haul cattle for area farmers and sale barns until he was 80 years old. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, visiting casinos. But most of all, going out dancing with Helen and picnics with family and friends.

John is survived by six children- Judy (Duane) Maupin of Apple River, Marcia Hume of Stockton, Roseanne Stansberry of Monticello, WI, Lori Hume of Freeport, Roger Hume of Bellevue, IA, and Ronnie (Bonnie) Hume of Dubuque, IA; 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, sister Eileen Lamont, infant daughter Mary, grandson Jeremy, 2 infant grandsons Michael and John, infant great grandson Connor, son-in-law James Stansberry and close family friend Gail "Johnny" Johnson.

He was a member of the Apple River Presbyterian Church

Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Apple River Presbyterian Church.

Officiating will be Pastor Kathy Linn.

Interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Warren.

Luncheon will follow at the Apple River Event Center.
