Obituary

Jeffery Alan Holmes, 75, of Lena, IL, passed away on Thursday January 1, 2026 at his home. Jeff was born on December 9, 1950 in Freeport, IL to Maurice and Elaine (Amendt) Holmes. Jeff graduated from Lena-Winslow High School and attended Highland Community College. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1971 and was stationed in Germany for two years. Upon returning home, he tended to the family farm, working the land and caring for their dairy herd. He purchased a dump truck and began a 20-year career hauling for Fischer Excavating. He was involved in the family farming up until the very end and enjoyed running for parts and small repair jobs alongside his son.

Jeff was a lifelong member of the Lena Lions Club, and a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Eleroy, IL. Jeff had an outgoing personality and so much zeal for life. He found happiness in playing fast pitch softball, bowling league, fishing with his kids, and golfing. He always loved being outdoors, driving his Ranger around the farm or touring on the local snowmobile trails. He loved his family and friends deeply and found incredible joy in watching his family grow, especially his grandchildren.

Jeff is survived by six children: Vicki (Holmes) Fischer of Pearl City, IL, Scott (Kim) Holmes of Lena, IL, Angie (Jose) Cruz of Charleston, SC, Kelly (Esther) Holmes of Tucson, AZ, Cody Holmes of Lena, IL, and Nick (Susan) Holmes of Lena, IL.
