Janice M. Smith's Obituary
Janice "Jan" M. Smith, 92 of Lena, IL passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Lena Living Center in Lena. She was born on April 3, 1924 in Grand Junction, MI to Harry and Maude (Miller) Stocks. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1943. Jan married Curtis L. Smith on February 15, 1948 in Grand Rapids, MI. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1979. Jan was employed by Microswitch from 1943 to 1952, Chambers and Owen from 1964-1970, and Crum & Forester Insurance from 1970 until her retirement in 1989. Jan was a member of the Isabel Chapter 322. She was also a long time member of the Stephenson County Association for Home and Community Education and the Lena Women's Club; a 72 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and 71 year member of the Capernaum White Shrine #4 W,S,J. Jan enjoyed reading, playing cards, traveling, playing scrabble, spending time with her family and her friends.
Jan is survived by her three children; Sue (Jerry) Fangman of Iowa City, IA, Jeffrey (Cindy) Smith of Lena, Nadeane (Frank) Reed of Lena; three grandchildren Melissa (Ryan) Goebel of Lena, Beth Smith of Lena, Ben (Tashonna) Smith of Monroe, WI; four great-grandchildren Wil and Rylan Smith of Monroe, WI, Madalyn and Payton Goebel of Lena; nieces and nephews Jim (Dean) Stevens of New Bern, NC, Dave (Mary) Stevens of Kalamazoo, MI, Jim Stocks of Lakeland, FL, Tom (Sheri) Stocks of Grand Rapids, MI; many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Curtis, brothers Henry, Wesley, Millard, and Kenneth Stocks; sisters Irma Stevens, Berniece Stocks; sisters-in-law Eleanor Stocks, Aurelia Stocks, June Stocks; brother-in-law Edward Stevens, and her long time friend Richard Freidag.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL.
A visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of services.
Pastor Randy Nicholas will officiate the services.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Inurnment will be at Lena Burial Park.
A memorial has been established in her name.
