Janice Lockwood, of Lena, passed away on December 13, 2025, at FHN Memorial Hospital. She was born in Lena, Illinois, on September 27, 1942, to John Franklin Metcalf and Meta (Peters) Metcalf. On September 16, 1961, she married Lee B. Lockwood.
Janice worked as a secretary for Honeywell Micro Switch, Salem United Church of Christ, and others over the years. Later, she was a loan processor for a bank in Freeport.
Janice enjoyed tending to her flowers and watching wildlife in her backyard. She was a talented artist. She spent many years tracing and documenting her and Lee's genealogy, finding many fun and interesting family facts along the way. She had a lifelong love of horses. Janice loved watching her grandchildren in their activities, especially their baseball games and horse shows. She loved reading and was the organizer of the Bookworms book club.
She was a lifelong member of Salem United Church of Christ and served in many roles over the years. Janice was the first woman elected to the church council and served as the Council President. She taught Sunday School and Bible School, was a member of the Worship Committee, and ran the video camera when the church first began recording services. She was a delegate at Association meetings for the UCC Northern Illinois Association and was a member of the Ministry Team for Authorized Ministers.
Janice is survived by her husband, Lee; daughter Jennifer (Nathan) Allen of DeKalb; and grandchildren Cody and Heather Allen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Marilyn Metcalf.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, December 22, 2025 at Salem United Church of Christ, Lena, with a visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of the service and a light luncheon following the service.
Pastor Randal Nicholas and Christopher Ham will officiate the services.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial fund has been established for The Nature Conservancy.
