James "Jim" P. Morton, 86, of Orangeville, IL known by his grandchildren as "Grumpy" passed away at the Lena Living Center in Lena, IL on Thursday, September 15, 2022. Jim was born on March 12, 1936, to James Robert and Irene (Lucas) Morton in Joliet, Illinois. He graduated from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, IL.

Jim married Peggy Anderson on November 13, 1954. Jim started working on his uncles farm and fulfilled his lifelong dream, by operating his own farm and moving to the Orangeville area in 1969.  He also worked for the IL DOT Maintenance and retired after 20 years. Jim loved fishing, going to auctions, eating out, Amish Bakeries, and sweets. He enjoyed his annual trips to the Wisconsin Dells when his children were young, Jim loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, they were his most cherished memories.

James is survived by his wife Peggy of Orangeville, IL; children- Marci Morton of Monroe, WI, Sally (Scott) Schaeffer of Mt. Carroll, IL, Rose (Wendell) DeVries of Freeport, IL,  Jim (Jodi) Morton of Belleville, WI; grandchildren- Christopher (Debi) DeVries, Aaron Dundee, Sidney (Brittani) DeVries, Holly Morton, Shawna Gallagher; five great grandchildren; and his sister- Irene Ryan.

James was preceded in death by his parents, son Andrew Morton, brother Elmer Morton, and his great granddaughter Chloe.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday September 23, 2022, at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe Wisconsin.

Funeral Services will be held following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. on Friday September 23, 2022, at St. Victor Catholic Church,

Burial will follow service at St. Victors Cemetery in Monroe, Wisconsin.

Father Tafadzwa Kushamba will be officiating.

A memorial has been established in his name.
