Obituary

J. Harvey McGivney, age 89 of Stockton, IL, passed away at his home on April 25,2026.

He was born in New Diggings, WI on September 13, 1936, the son of James Vincent and Linnie Martha (Downs) McGivney.  He was a 1955 graduate of Warren High School.  Harvey married Judy Wand at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elizabeth, IL, on June 20, 1959.

Harvey worked at the Dekalb Seed Corn Plant in Warren. In 1963, he moved to what became the family farm in Stockton.  He had a lifelong passion for farming and was very proud that the family continues the tradition today.  Harvey loved dancing, playing cards with the card club, bowling and traveling to Branson, Missouri with his wife Judy.  He was a member of the Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau and the Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Harvey is survived by his wife Judy of Stockton; children- Linda Sue McGivney of Kenosha, WI, Marcia (Randy) Hammer of Pearl City, IL, Monica (Michael) Wentz of Waukesha, WI, Jim (Monica) McGivney of Apple River, IL, Melanie Charnas of Leander, TX, and Beth (Adam) Armstrong of Rochester, MN; daughter-in-law Sue McGivney of Apple River, IL; 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Joseph McGivney, and son-in-law Chad Charnas.

Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 2, 2026, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton, IL.

Catholic Funeral Mass to follow beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Father Michael Morrisey will officiate.

Cremation rites to follow with an interment at a later date.

Luncheon to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

A memorial has been established in his name.
