Obituary

Harold Glenn Oxley, 66, of Freeport, IL, passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. The youngest of five and the only son, Harold was born on March 27, 1960, to Lowell and Eva (Cabeen) Oxley in Clarinda, Iowa. Following high school, he attended Iowa Western Community College where he obtained his Associates of Science in Engineering Technology.  Shortly after graduating he was hired by Micro Switch in Freeport, IL where he was a Manufacturing Engineer for 24 years. He retired from his career at Delta Power Company in 2024. He married Diane Janssen on April 24, 1982, at the First Baptist Church in Freeport, IL.

Harold had a great sense of humor, famously known for dad jokes and making others smile. He possessed an innate curiosity, always seeking scientific explanations. Harold stayed active throughout his life, keeping a detailed workout log and always pushing himself to become better. He found fulfillment in blood donorship, which became an expression of his benevolence and compassion. Harold was a Christian, serving his Lord through children's ministries, participating in his church's worship team, and serving on three different missions' trips to Louisianna in support of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. For many years, he served on the Tri County Christian School Board.

Harold is survived by his wife Diane, their two children- Rachel (Ryan Blake) Oxley and Ron (Caroline) Oxley, four grandchildren-Jayden Blake, Jorden Blake-Oxley, Meadow Oxley and Lila Oxley, four sisters-Carol Boggess, Maureen (Paul) Drake, Mary Oxley, and Wilma (Vic) Schuermann, many beloved nieces and nephews, and long-time friend Dave Becker.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Steve Boggess, father and mother-in-law Millard and Mary Janssen, sister-in-law Sharon Cowan, and great niece Emma Kate Schultz.

The family extends their gratitude to Mark Hunziker and Kris Robinson of FHN Mercy Hospice and the hospice team, Park View Home, and Dr. Jessica Condie of Northwest Eye Care for their compassion and advocacy.

Harold was passionate in the research of his diagnosis, Corticobasal Syndrome (CBS), a rare form of atypical parkinsonism, and donated his brain for research efforts to advance understanding of the disease.
