Gladys Estelle Thayer, age 84 formerly of Winchester,Virginia, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Freeport Memorial Hospital.  She was born on August 7, 1936 in Washington D.C., the daughter of Paul Samuel Kilmer Sr. and Annie Mary Sullivan.  Gladys grew up in the Takoma Park, Maryland area.  She married Richard Nelson Gessford Thayer Jr. on September 3, 1954.  Gladys volunteered at the Fredrick County Senior Center in Stephen City, Virginia.  She was an avid reader, who loved her cats, enjoyed making crafts and following politics.

Gladys is survived by her 2 daughters- Susie Ebert of Winchester, VA and Sherri (Tony) Runkle of Lena, IL; 5 grandchildren- Diane Showalter, Elizabeth Ayers, Steve Thayer Jr., Emilebeth Ebert, and Marissa Runkle; 5 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 siblings- Mary Annie Eastridge and William Henry Kilmer.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 1978, son Steven Thayer Sr., and her brother Paul Samuel Kilmer "Sonny".
