Gerald "Gerry" W. Koertner, 71, of Lena passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the William S. Memorial Veteran's Hospital in Madison. Gerry was born on April 5, 1946 to Wilbur "Mose" and Marguerite "Peg" (Raders) Koertner in Freeport, IL. He graduated from Lena-Winslow High School in 1964. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966, and served until 1970, working on Minuteman Missiles. Gerry delivered milk for Dean's for many years before taking over the family dairy farm, which he loved sharing with his wife and two daughters. Later on in life, he worked in the financial industry selling insurance and in his retirement, enjoyed working for FS part-time. In 1982 he married his true love, Jean Bornmann. Gerry was the proud father of Brooke and Kristin. His life became even more blessed with the arrival of each of his four grandchildren, Bailey, Braden, Avery, and Liesl.

Gerry enjoyed always being there for his family, spending time with friends, volunteering for the VA and American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Jean, his daughters Brooke (Dan) Baldauf and Kristin Jones, all of Lena; grandchildren Bailey, Braden, Avery Baldauf and Liesl Jones; brother Bill (Camille) Koertner of Barrington, IL and sister Jane (Doug) Vorhies of Oxford, Mississippi, and many special family and friends.

Gerry is preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be from 4-8:00 PM on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lena.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 13, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lena.

Burial will be at a later date.

Rev. Rick Bader will officiate the services.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

A memorial has been established in his name.
