Francis "Frank " Edler , 91 of Freeport , IL passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 20, 2023. He was born on May 28, 1931, in Freeport, IL to Simon and Hattie (Dinderman) Edler. He was raised in Pearl City, IL and graduated from Pearl City High School in 1949. Frank married Leah Herman in 1953, together they raised five children: Dale, Greg, Brian, Marcia and Kurt. In his early years, he farmed on his family farm in the Pearl City area and a farm just west of Lena. On December 18, 1976 he married Sharon Elbeck in Freeport, Illinois. Frank and Sharon owned and operated the dry cleaners in Lena for many years, while he was at Microswitch. He retired from Micro with over 35 years and throughout his time held various positions, one of his last positions as a supervisor.
He was a man of many talents. He was a very proud cookie baker of his "Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies." He helped coach Little League and loved helping the kids. He was an avid dog breeder for Show Dogs and took them to competitions all over the United States. Frank was a member of the Collie Club of America and won B.O.S in 1996. Throughout his life he overcame many hurdles, one was being diagnosed with Polio and all the challenges that came with it. He was a devoted member of the Grace Free Methodist Church in McConnell, IL
He is survived by his wife Sharon of Freeport; children- Dale (Janet) Edler of Orangeville, Greg (Kathy) Edler of Lena, Brian (Kay) Edler of Freeport, Marcia (Laverne) Pax of Lena; step children- Alan (Jube) Weegens of the Philippines, Mark (Rhonda) Weegens of Arkansas, Terry (Deb) Weegens of Colorado, Todd (Glena) Weegens of Freeport, Kenneth (Jennifer) Raymer of Lake in Hills, Lisa (Don) Wienand of Lena, Todd (Alice) Raymer of Wisconsin, Scot Raymer of Winslow; daughter in law- Gerene Raymer of Lena; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents; son Kurt in 2006; grandson AJ Pax in 2008; stepson Bari Raymer in 2021; and seven siblings.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, February 27, 2023, at Grace Free Methodist Church in McConnell, IL.
Visitation will take place at 9:00 am until time of service.
A private family burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport, IL.
Pastor Ryan Klein will be officiating the service.
A memorial has been established in his memory for the Grace Free Methodist Church.
