Eileen A.
Snapp
Apr 30, 1929 — Jul 24, 2021
Eileen A. Snapp, 92, of Eleroy, Illinois passed away in her home on Saturday, July 24, 2021 with her family by her side. Eileen was born in Schapville, Illinois on April 30, 1929. She graduated from Scales Mound High School and was united in marriage to Ed Snapp on October 28, 1950 at the Schapville Presbyterian Church.
Eileen lived and worked in Iowa and Illinois while raising her 6 children – finally settling in Eleroy following the birth of her twins. She worked in several factories, including Flexsteel (Dubuque), WT Rawleigh (Freeport), and Micro Switch (Honeywell) – where she retired after 20 years. During retirement, she delighted in the opportunity to care for several of her grandchildren and also helped Ed with the Huron Market (established in Eleroy in 1991). One of the highlights of her life was being cast in a commercial for the Little Lotto, though she never bought a ticket.
Eileen was considered a prayer warrior and a saint by her family and friends – and she was loved by everyone. As a member of the Lena United Methodist Church, since 1967, she was an active member of the United Methodist Women (UMW); she spent every Tuesday with several ladies of the church quilting beautiful blankets; she also sewed all of her love into quilts for her children, rode horses bareback as a teenager, enjoyed reading, and taught dad how to dance. Three things you could always count on if you stopped by the Snapp household for a visit – a game of Euchre, "42", or Yahtzee, music (usually Johnny Cash, Blake Shelton or dad singing in the rocking chair), and a cup of tea or coffee. She was also an avid fan of General Hospital and Patsy Montana – even getting on stage and singing one of Patsy's hits "I want to be a Cowboy's Sweetheart" with the local artist, Larry Michael – yodeling included!
Eileen is survived by her daughters Marilyn Kay (Dick) Marchel of Freeport, IL, Lilah Mae (Kelvin) Stoel of Colorado, Springs, CO, Ima Renee' Lindstrom of Monument, CO, Colleen Rae (Jerry) Alton of Ashland, WI, and Roberta Faye Rogers of Eleroy, IL; her 11 grandchildren Christopher (Leanne) Lindstrom, David (Kristi) Hyland, Cassaundra (Bret) Garegnani, and Matthew Stoel all of Colorado, Jacob Alton of Wisconsin, Kyle (Ashton) Alton of Ontario Canada, Michael Snapp and Rebecca Snapp both of Arizona, Mariela Snapp Roan of New Mexico, Drew Rogers of Illinois, and Cody (Taylor) Rogers of Wisconsin; her great-grandchildren London, Riley, Emerson, Adrianna, Gemma, Charlie, and Ivan "Mack"; her brother-in-law David (Eleanor) Snapp, many beloved nieces and nephews, and special friends Jerry and Sharon Fox.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents George and Anna (Dotzel) Winter, her husband Edward Herbert Snapp, her son Robert Edward Snapp, her siblings and their spouses Robert (Genevieve) Winter, Verle (Shirley) Winter, Marie (Harold) Laman, and Ardale (Stanley) Fry, and her husband's family Christ and Ima Snapp, Donna (Bob) Schneider, and Ralph (Irene) Snapp.
Visitation will be held at Leamon's Funeral Home in Lena on Friday, July 30, 2021 from 4 pm to 8 pm with funeral services on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 10 am at the Lena United Methodist Church with Pastor Keri Rainsberger officiating. Friends may visit with family and say final good-byes to Eileen during the hour prior to the service. A celebratory meal will be held in fellowship hall immediately following the service.
Eileen will be laid to rest near her husband and son in a private ceremony at White Oak Cemetery in Forreston.
