Duane E. Shippy age 98, of McConnell passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 13, 1919 in McConnell, IL to Clarence and Myrtle (Parriott) Shippy. He attended the McConnell school s and graduated from Winslow High School in 1937. On November 2, 1941 he married Joslyn Berget at the Jordan Lutheran Church in rural Browntown, WI. After high school graduation he started working for his father who ran a construction business in McConnell and worked with his father until 1943. He served his country in the United States Navy Seabees, 109 ^th Naval Construction Battalion serving in the pacific theatre, first in the Marshall Islands and then on Guam. He was discharged December 13, 1945 at the great lakes naval base. When came back from service he started to work for his father again until his father's retirement and then started his own construction business. He continued working until his retirement in 1984. He was also associated with his brother Elwyn who ran the Shippy Cabinet Shop in McConnell. They built many houses in the area. He was charter member of the McConnell Legion Post# 1225, a member of the Gratiot VFW and the McConnell United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Joslyn of McConnell, daughter; Sandra Shippy of Santa Monica, CA and son Steve Shippy of Freeport. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Eulalia and Arabelle (Dale) Wulff. Brother Elwyn (Elaine) Shippy.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday July 18, 2018 at the McConnell United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 until time of service at the church.

Officiating will be Pastor Matthew Smith and Ernest Stabenow.

Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

A luncheon will be held at the church before burial.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
