Dorothy D. Maaske, 77, of Lena passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at her home in Lena. She was born on August 4, 1940 to Russell and Alberta (Fritz) Whitaker in Sterling, IL. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1958 and graduated from Carthage College in 1962 with a Bachelor's degree in education. She married Larry Maaske on July 14, 1963, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling. Dorothy taught physical education in the Pearl City School District, Franklin Grove School District, and Lena-Winslow School District. On August 1, 1976, she began working for Citizens State Bank in Lena, first as a teller, and later as a bookkeeper. After 30 years with the bank, she retired in February 2006. She was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lena. She was on the altar guild for many years, taught Sunday school, and helped with the annual bazaar for many years. She also volunteered at My Friend's Closet and was a bus aide for the Adult Day Center. Dorothy loved to read, work crossword puzzles, and spend time with her family.

She is survived by her husband Larry; one son, Jeffrey (Beth) Maaske of Brentwood, TN; two grandchildren Kylie Phillips and Zackery Maaske; one sister Joanne (Herb) Reed of Tavaras, FL; two brothers, Russell (Jim) Whitaker of Fort Collins, CO, and John (Cheryl) Whitaker of Sterling, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, October 13, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lena.

A visitation will be from 4:00 till 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 12, 2017at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Pastor Rick Bader will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL.

A memorial has been established in her name.
