Obituary

Donald D. Harwick, age 82 of Warren passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2018 at FHN Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on July 26, 1935 at home in rural Schapville in Jo Daviess County, IL to Delbert and Evelyn (Hammer) Harwick. His first marriage was to Barb Posey and they had two sons.  He married Ruth Ann Blair on July 17, 1959 at the Baptist Church in Warren, IL and they had two daughters. Early in his life, Don worked at his uncle's farm, a rock quarry, cheese factories, and as a truck driver for a canning company. He was best known as a line clearance tree trimmer which he did for over 50 years and was a member of IBEW for over 60 years. Don was also known for being exceptionally mechanically inclined and could fix anything from a small radio to rebuilding an engine. Don enjoyed horses for many years; owning, training, shoeing, breeding, and trail riding. He started riding motorcycles at a young age and passed that love to his family. Some of his favorite bikes were Harley, Triumph, BMW, and especially Moto Guzzi. He loved touring the country on his bike with his wife Ruth. After their motorcycling years were over, they enjoyed road trips with their PT Cruiser convertible. He also loved fishing, camping, and boating with his family. After retirement Don and Ruth spent their winters at their home in Winter Haven Resort in Brownsville, TX where they enjoyed warm weather and great friends.

He is survived by his loving wife Ruth of 58 years; four children- Daniel Harwick, James (Molly) Harwick, Margie Capp and Penny (Larry) Tingler; grandchildren- Greg Harwick, Jolene (Matt) Raab, Lucas (Melissa) Harwick, Amy (Dave) Hynek, Deanna Capp, Kristina Capp, Enrique (Chantal) Medina, Maria Medina, Don (Jane) Tingler, Daniel (Lilliana) Tingler and Tyler (Rae'Ana) Tingler; 18 great grandchildren; brothers Eugene (Sue) and Kenneth; sister Cheryl (Dave) Rollinger; and sisters-in-law Phyllis Harwick and Deloris Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Darlene (James) Sigafus, brother Gerald Harwick, sister-in-law Clara Harwick, and brothers-in-law Robert (Margie) and Charles (Clara) Blair and Ralph Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday February 2, 2018 at the Apple River Event Center.

Officiating will be Paul Fritz.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday February 1, 2018 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren.

Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his name.
