Donald O. Beck, age 87, of Warren, IL passed away Monday, July 16, 2018 at Monroe Clinic Hospice House following a long battle with lung and heart problems. Don was born August 1, 1930 in Elizabeth, IL, the third child of Omer C. and Clara (Hesslebacher) Beck. He attended Elizabeth schools. As a youth, he met his oldest best friend, Niles Kevern. Together they explored the area and having some adventures they survived only be the grace of God.

Don married Barbara Eversoll March 26, 1952 in Schapville. To this union, three children were born Janine, Paul, and Christopher. Barbara preceded Don in death on April 4, 2000. Following high school graduated, Don began his life of service. He joined the Elizabeth Fire Department in 1951. He also reorganized Boy Scouts of America Troop 33 in Elizabeth. Don and Barb moved to Warren in 1958 where he joined the Warren Fire Department and served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 26 until the mid-1960's. He was awarded the Silver Beaver by the Boy Scouts in 2006. Don and Barb had lived at Canyon Camp near Schapville in the mid-1950's and Don stated he never got Canyon Camp out of his soul. Don was Chief of the Warren Fire Department from 1975-1990, and retired from the department in 2006 after 55 years of service. He was very proud of the department and its members, and felt being chief was the most rewarding thing he ever did.

Don was also instrumental in the creation of the Veteran's Memorial that stands on the grounds of the Community House in Warren. He also served as Warren Village Trustee for 12 years and as sewer and water chair when the new water tower was built and the waste water treatment plant was rebuilt.

Don wants the world to know this—Life is like a mirror and you only get out of it what you put into it.

Don is survived by his three children, Janine (Thomas) Dunkle of Dyersville, IA, Paul (Deborah) Beck of Morrison, IL and Christopher (Jeanette Muller) of Warren, IL; granddaughter Alyssa (Christopher) Caraballo of Lindenhurst, IL; great-granddaughter Fiona Caraballo; as well as his brothers-in-law, John (Susan) Eversoll, of Elizabeth, IL, and James Musgrove of Katy, TX, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Barbara; his parents, Omer and Clara; sister Arlene Musgrove, and brother Buford "Jug" Beck.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 20, 2018 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Warren, IL.

A visitation will be from 4-8:00 PM on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren, IL.

Burial will be at Shepherd of the Hills Cemetery in Schapville, IL.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

A memorial has been established in his name.
