Dennis J. Tillis, age 62 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 29, 1958 in Clinton, IA, the son of John and LaVonne (Hoffmann) Tillis. Dennis was a graduate of Pearl City High School Class of 1976. He married Debra Oefelein on September 19, 1981 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Freeport.

Dennis loved to build with his hands. He enjoyed helping others with their home projects, and spent many hours completing little projects for neighbors and friends. Dennis loved cars and enjoyed watching Nascar. Dennis and Deb loved traveling to Colorado where Dennis enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the mountains. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, Deb and his family.

Dennis is survived by his wife Debra of Freeport; their fur baby Koby; mother LaVonne Tillis of Freeport; siblings- Dean (Deb) Tillis of Stockton, IL, Alice (Jeff) Kempel of Port Byron, IL, David (Carla) Tillis of Pearl City, Ann (Mark) Frey of Pearl City, Arlene (Eric) Winter of Weston, WI, and Dale (Deanna) Tillis of Belvidere, IL; sisters-in-law Sharon Tillis of Nebraska and Lori (John) Brobst of Freeport; brother-in-law Jeff Oefelein(Marianne) of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father John, brother Daniel Tillis, sister Angela Canner, a brother Donald in infancy, father-in-law Glenn Oefelein and mother-in-law Karen Oefelein

Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena.

Funeral Service to follow, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Officiating will be Pastor Arthur Stees.

Luncheon to follow the services at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lena.
