Obituary

Daniel Kent Herman passed away at the age of 75 at his home in Lake Carroll IL under hospice care with his family on September 5th, 2015. His passing was caused by kidney failure resulting from past radiation treatment for prostate cancer.

Dan was born to Oliver and Grace Herman in Mount Carroll, IL, where he lived throughout his childhood. He was a graduate of Warren High School, and received his Mechanical Engineering degree from Bradley University. After graduating he united with Nancy Herman (Kruger), his wife of 54 years. Dan was employed at International Harvester/ Navistar for 42 years. During his time there, he was Chief Engineer of the truck engine division, and spent his last 10 years in marketing and sales of buses. His family lived in Ft. Wayne, IN and in Naperville, IL for over 25 years.

Dan was a loving and generous family man who had four children, Brian (deceased 1970), Susan Kelzer, Kevin (Elizabeth Soukup) and Mark. Dan has four grandsons: Matt and Joe Kelzer, and David and Alex Herman. In addition to being survived by his wife, Dan is survived by his older brother, David (Dorothea Hinze).

Dan was an incredible fix-it man and builder. Dan enjoyed working on machines and building various projects for his family, friends, and home. After retirement, his interests turned to wood working projects and his new-found love of ATV's. Dan was a member of the Lake Carroll Association in many areas including founding the trail club for ATVs. Throughout his life, Dan was a wonderful photographer. His prized machine he worked on and restored was his MGB sports car, which he owned for 37 years. He was an active member of the MG club, leading multi-day driving tours. Dan was an integral member of the US Too support group for prostate cancer, and helped counsel and support many individuals.

Dan will be missed by family and friends, in lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice in his honor.

There will be a Celebration Of Life Thursday September 10th from 4:00 PM- 7:00 PM at the Lake Carroll Clubhouse 29-11 Ironwood Blvd. Lanark, IL in Lake Carroll. There will be a private service for burial.
