Obituary

Charles Allen Osterday, Sr., 92 of Freeport, passed away at the Monroe Clinic Hospital on February 19, 2022.  He was born in Lamont, Wisconsin on May 25, 1929 to Howard and Muriel (Anderson) Osterday.  Charlie graduated from Darlington Wisconsin High School in 1947. He married  Corolyn "Corky" Curry on August 12, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Darlington.  In 2021, Charlie and Corky celebrated their 71 st wedding anniversary.  They had two children together, their son Charles A. Osterday, Jr., of New Paris, IN and daughter Vici Otte of Freeport.

Charlie was in the Army serving during the Korean Conflict.  He and Corky moved to Stockton, IL where he built his business, Osterday Electric before going into the Building Business.  Later he worked as the Building Coordinator for Branager Organization at Galena Territories until his retirement.  During his working career, Charlie not only built homes but also built many lifelong friendships.

While living in Stockton, Charlie was involved in the Stockton Village Board, Stockton Volunteer Fire Department, and was on the original Stockton Fireworks Committee where he helped with the 4 th of July Display and Development Group.  He told many stories of the adventurous times while setting up displays and setting off the fireworks, recounting both planned and unplanned events. Charlie was a member of the Masons, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion.

Charlie and Corky moved to Freeport, IL in 1995 and lived there until his passing.

He is survived by his wife, Corky of Freeport; son Charles A. (Ellyn) Osterday, Jr. of New Paris, IN; daughter Vici (Kevin) Otte, of Freeport.  Six grandchildren; Charles A. (Kristi) Osterday, III of Middlebury, IN, Darrin (Abby) Osterday of Archbold, OH, Eric (Elizabeth) Osterday  of Vernon, CT, Mitchell (Lauren) Osterday of Whitestown, IN, Heather (John) Cox of (Metamora, IL and Matthew (special friend, Amy) Otte of Freeport; sister Ardith (Larry) Benson; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Osterday and Cynda Eastlick; sister and brother-in-law Bobby and Jake Werkheiser; ten great-grandchildren; Allyson, Christian, Anna, Graycen, Lydia, Owen, Liam, Charlotte, Harrison and Ellie; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Lois and her husband Harlie Miller; brother Lyle; brothers-in-law Ted Curry and Dale Eastlick.

He dearly loved his family and friends, seldom missed a class reunion and enjoyed time on the Mississippi River with his boating friends at the Dubuque Marina, where he was affectionately known as the "Mayor of I-Dock".

Charlie will always be remembered as a gentle man and a gentleman.

Cremation Rights were accorded, and family graveside services will be held at a later date, at Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington, WI. with the intent of military honors.

Memorial money will be given to the Stockton Fireworks Committee.
