Obituary

Charles "Charlie" J. Neff, age 93, of Warren, Illinois, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday May 13, 2026. Charlie was born October 16, 1932, in Lafayette County, Wisconsin, to Harold and Stella (Knebel) Neff. He married Clara Huttenlocher, on September 18, 1955, in Elizabeth, IL. Together they owned and operated Neff Oil Company for more than 40 years. Charlie also drove school bus for the Warren School District for many years and was a familiar and friendly face to countless students and families in the community. Charlie was a devoted supporter of all Warren Warrior athletics and a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers. He was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Warren, where he served on the Church Council. Charlie was also deeply committed to his community, serving both the Warren Fire Department and the Warren Lions Club for over 50 years each. In addition, he served on the Warren Town Board and was a member of the Warren Chamber of Commerce. He also drove for the Warren Ambulance Service. Charlie cherished time spent with his family and friends. His kindness, dedication, and community spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.

Charlie is survived by his two daughters; Karen Neff and Susan (John) Brattlund, his son; Curt (Brenda) Neff, his grandchildren; Elise (George) Peterson, Erik (Alicia) Brattlund and Emily (Noah) Koch; great-grandchildren, George and Braelynn Peterson and Eleanor and Halle Koch. He is also survived by his sister, Marg Mau, and brother Dave (Deb) Neff, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Clara, on December 8, 1999, his sister, Gloria, and brother-in-law Dick Mau and Mark Homan.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Warren IL.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the Church.

Officiating will be Pastor Margo Peterson.

Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the church.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to SSM Monroe Hospice Home and Tri-State Home Health Care for their compassionate care and support.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
