Obituary

Brett Todd Schwertfeger, born on January 13th, 1972, in Rockford, Illinois, was released of his worldly pains and earthly limitations on October 19th, 2026.

Brett spent his early youth on the farm outside of Pecatonica along with his late grandfather. The family then moved to Washington state where he attended Everett area schools. His passion for keeping his hands busy and his mother on edge started when he worked with close friend Frank Cota, TreeTop Services, tree trimming and logging in the Pacific Northwest woods. When the family relocated back to the Midwest, Brett followed along putting his knowledge and skills as a roofer, carpenter, and overall handyman to use whenever he could. Eventually, Brett settled his roots in Warren, Illinois remaining close to the family he took great pride in. Although he faced his own challenges in life, Brett never let that stop him. He could often be seen assisting those who also needed help in the community and making himself your acquaintance. He was always eager to lend a hand or crack a joke your way. To know Brett, was to be loved by Brett.

He will dearly missed by his mother Jeanette (Steve) Loomis, sisters Jeannette (Tim Hood) Mehafey, Tina (Tony) Grabianowski, and Teresa Stanfield, step-siblings Matt Loomis, Melanie Wyatt, and Wendy Baker, nephews Ricky Jacobs, Erik Hood, Jordon Grabianowski, and Zack Stanfield, niece Nicole Grabianowski and great-niece Aveah Watkins. As well as many cousins, uncles, aunts, close family and friendly faces.

Brett is preceded in death by his father Ronald Schwertfeger, grandparents Herb and Doris Degner, Phyllis and Emil Unnerstall, Donna Ryden, cousin Kenny Ryden and brother-in-law Wade Stanfield.

Please join the family in a celebration of Brett's life on Sunday, November 8th from 12-3pm at the Warren Community Building in Warren, IL.
