Obituary

Bonnie Kay (Gahm) Guthrie, 82, of Lena, IL passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the Lena Living Center in Lena, IL. The daughter of Donald and Vivian (Kleckner) Otte, she was born on October 15, 1943, in Freeport, IL. Bonnie was married to Theron Gahm and together they raised 4 children. In her later years, Bonnie married Mahlon "Ed" Guthrie.

Bonnie graduated from Lena-Winslow High School in 1961 and went on to attend Sterling Beauty School where she graduated in March 1962 with her cosmetology degree. Throughout Bonnie's life she would cut family and friend's hair at her home where in exchange she would never except money but so many would bring Bonnie and her family fresh produce and homemade goodies in return. For many years Bonnie worked as an LPN at the Lena Living Center and Parkview Nursing Home. She was a long-time member of the Salem Church, as well as the Zion Community Church, where she was part of the Ladies Quartet, and Lend-A-Hand ladies' group. Bonnie and her family found joy in serving their church and their church family.

Bonnie is survived by 4 children- Gregory Gahm, Matthew (Donna) Gahm, Angela Gahm and Halvin (Staci) Gahm; grandchildren- Dylan (Angelica) Gahm, Heidi (Ryan) Hoepner, Heather (Trevor) Sexton, Victoria Gahm, Kelli Mathews, Adam (Angie) Mathews, Kerri (Kevin) Maess, Halli and Brooke Gahm; great-grandchildren- Josiah, Gracelynn, and Gabriel Gahm, Ashton Hoepner, Haven Sexton, Cole and Nora Mathews, Ivy and Henry Maess, Makayla, Austin, Mya, Gionni, and Myles Mathews, Grayson Heinrich, and 2 sisters- Patty (Robert) Noller and Pamela (Michael) Kalinosky.

She is preceded in death by her parents Donald and Vivian, husband Mahlon, and daughter-in-law Kathy.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Zion Community Church in Pearl City, IL. With a visitation from 1:00 pm until time of service.

Pastor Wayne Fischer will be officiating the service.

Burial will take place at Lena Burial Park in Lena, IL.

A memorial had been established in her name.
