On Monday, September 21, 2026, a beautiful light went out when Bonnie Kay Broge left her earthly home to meet the many loved ones waiting for her in her eternal home.

Bonnie was born in Freeport, Illinois, to Jerri and Kenny Gusloff, joining her older sister, Sara. Following Kenny's passing, the family moved to Des Moines and eventually settled in Ankeny, Iowa, where Bonnie and Sara grew up alongside their younger siblings, Dennis and Jennie.

Bonnie graduated from Ankeny High School, earned her bachelor's degree from Wartburg College, and completed her master's degree at the United States Sports Academy. She began her career teaching at Mary Baldwin University in Virginia before returning to Iowa to serve as an athletic trainer for Drake University.

While living in Lena, Illinois, Bonnie welcomed her daughter, Megan Shultz, who brought immense joy to Bonnie and her entire family. Bonnie later met the love of her life, Greg "Bugsy" Broge, and the two were married in 1997. They completed their family with the birth of their son, Kenny. For over three decades, Bonnie proudly called Lena home. Throughout the years, she shared her talents across several professions, working as a massage therapist, coach, community school employee, and most recently within property and casualty insurance.

Bonnie had the biggest, kindest heart and would truly give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Generous beyond measure, she found immense joy in showering those around her with thoughtful gifts, treats, and surprises. Her vibrant, competitive spirit kept her fighting hard until the very end. She will forever be remembered for her fierce passion for sports-whether supporting her children's teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs, or the Chicago Bears—her love of a good card game, and above all, her devotion to family.

While Bonnie wore many titles throughout her life, her absolute favorite was "Bonkers." Her love for her grandchildren was unspeakable, boundless, and brought a light to her life that was unmatched. Bonnie is survived by her devoted husband, Greg; her daughter, Megan (Tyler); her son, Kenny; her parents, Jerri and Jim Wilson; her sisters, Sara (Tom) Ackert and Jennie (Dave) Henry; her 2 sister-in-laws, Val Hoefle and Angie (Matt) Goebel; her cherished granddaughter, Brynlee; her mother-in-law, Lorraine Broge; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nephews, a great-niece, aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends.

She was reunited in eternal rest with her father, Kenneth Gusloff; her brother, Dennis Hoefle; her grandparents, Loren and Wealtha Hoefle; her father-in-law, Gary Broge; and her beloved granddaughter, Ashlynn Sellman.

A visitation will take place from 3:00-7:00pm on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL.

A private service will be held at the Lena Burial Park.

The family invites those who would like to join them in fellowship to the luncheon at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lena, IL, at 12 noon, Saturday, October 3, 2026

Cremation rites have been accorded.
