Arthur L. Gabel, age 87 of Lena, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born on December 3, 1930 in Rush Township, Jo Daviess County to Frank and Emily (Nelson) Gabel. Art married LaVone Haeft on June 2, 1952 in Warren, IL. They moved to Lena in 1954 and later he and his growing family moved to the farm in 1961. He was a farmer, owned and operated a Milk and Cream Truck route. He worked at Micro Switch for 24 years while also farming.

Art is survived by his wife of 66 years LaVone of Lena; 5 children- Karen (Jerry) White of Little Rock, AR, Randy (Mary) Gabel of Montello, WI, Sandy (Michael) Taylor of Freeport, IL, Marilyn (Chuck) Shick of Freeport, IL, Bryan (Katherine) Gabel of Menominee, MI; 6 grandchildren- Jeremy (Misty) Ray of Alexander, AR, Ryan Gabel of Benton, WI, Kyle (Heather) Shick of Rockton, IL, Jamie (Annie) Shick of Cherry Valley, IL, Clayton (Adrienne) Shick of Glen Carbon, IL, Natalie Taylor of Freeport, IL; step-grandchild- Kim (Travis) Kraabel of Evansville, WI, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Alvin Gabel.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena.

Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena.

Internment will take place at the Lena Burial Park.

A luncheon will follow at the Lena United Methodist Church.

A memorial fund will be established in his name.
