Alberta M. Hurst, 86, of Warren, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Monroe Health Services in Monroe, WI. Alberta was born on January 6, 1939 in Nora, IL to Walter and Ester (Kuntz) Runkle.
She married Harold Hurst on August 22, 1954 at the Amity Lutheran Church in Lena and together they raised four children.
Over the years Alberta held numerous jobs including bartending at Willy's in Warren, IL for several years, working at the Lena Cheese Factory, detasseling and sorting corn for Dekalb Seed Company, and working on the assembly line at Carter Motors until her retirement.
Alberta enjoyed reading, sewing (she made all her clothing and Harold's shirts), and cooking; her children always talked about her rhubarb tortes she would make. Alberta and Harold loved traveling in their camper and spending the winters in Texas. Alberta was a woman of faith and was a member of the Martintown Community Church for several years.
She is survived by four children: Robert (Anna) Hurst of Sierra Vista, AZ, Mary Strong of Jourdanton TX, Keith (Rosanne) Hurst of Byron, IL, and Nancy (Jerry) Harris of Jourdanton, TX; five grandchildren: Meagan, Brittany, Heidi, Jarred and Lucas; two great grandchildren: Taybree and Logan; six siblings: Marilynn, Millie, Dick, Alvin, Marlen and Dale and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alberta was preceded by her parents, husband, Harold, two grandchildren- Lynnette and Sheldon and six siblings- Melvin, Wayne, Bernetta, Edwin, Eldon and Ronny.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Martintown Community Church.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 4-7 PM at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren, IL.
Pastor Kevin Cernek will officiate the service
Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeport, IL
A memorial has been established in Alberta's memory.
