Ada Mae Welker, 90, passed to her eternal reward on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Freeport Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois after a short illness.
Ada Mae Welker was born in Lena, Illinois on September 14, 1925 the daughter of Floyd and Laurene (Blackbourn) Wingert. She was raised in West Point Township, attended elementary school at Albee School and graduated from Lena High School in 1943. She was a Registered Nurse graduating from Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She worked at St Francis Hospital, Freeport, Illinois and Ortiz Nursing Home, Lena, Illinois.
On February 14, 1947 she married Kenneth R. Welker in Freeport, IL. They were engaged in dairy farming for fifty years in Kent Township.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Gary Price, grandson and wife Adam and Dena Price, great grandson Lukas Price and great granddaughters, Penelope and Kenlee Price, brother and sister-in-law, Boyd and Johanne Wingert, sister-in-law Ruth Wingert, all of Lena, Illinois, nieces Marcia Connor, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Anne Schultz, Lanark, Illinois, Barbara Sargent, Blaine, Minnesota, nephew, Charles Wingert, Freeport, Illinois, cousins, Charlene Williamson, Apple River, Illinois, Robert Blackbourn and Harry Blackbourn, Shullsburg, Wisconsin. She was predeceased by husband Kenneth on June 23, 1999, son Fred C. Welker on December 13, 1970 while serving in the US Army, brother Arnold Wingert, niece Vicki Campbell, nephew, Lyle Wingert, Grandniece Deidra Campbell.
Ada Mae was a member of the Pearl City United Methodist Church, Northwest Illinois Nursing Association, Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Alumni, 71 year member of the Isabel Chapter #322, Eastern Star, Lena, Illinois. She enjoyed traveling and visited the Holy Land, Hawaii, and Europe. She enjoyed Sunday afternoon drives in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin and spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Lena United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian LeBaron officiating.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of services on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Lena United Methodist Church.
Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport, Illinois.
A memorial has been established in her name.
